Choosing a moving company isn’t always an easy task. After all years of being in the business, we know well how important it is to find a moving company you’re completely comfortable with. The movers you hire will be coming in and out of your home. They will be in contact with your family and pets and will be responsible for your most prized possessions. In addition to trust, you’re likely considering cost and availability as major factors in your decision making. Every household has different needs and priorities and research is key. We’re obviously biased so we don’t doubt that after all your research, Fox Moving Atlanta will be your top choice, but of course, considering your options first is always necessary. We’ve put together some helpful information to help you in choosing your moving company.

Before choosing a moving company, do your research.

Online Resources:

Google it is. A quick search on Google will help you put together a starter list of possible moving companies. Once you have a few options in mind, you’ll want to do a little more digging online to narrow it down to the best moving company for you. Don’t depend on just one or two random people’s bad reviews (or good!) to make your choices for you when choosing a moving company. Visit the websites of potential moving company options. Are they professional? Do they answer the bulk of your questions? After a site visit or two, look around the rest of the web. You can check consumer advocacy sites such as movingscam.com  and research DOT licensing using the SAFER system.

Word of Mouth:

Never underestimate the power of word of mouth when choosing a moving company. Ask your friends, neighbors, and co-workers if they have experience with a local moving company and find out who they recommend. If you’re buying a new home, ask your real estate agent. You are more likely to trust the people you know and do business with than you are some questionable online reviews.  Stick with local movers because finding a locally owned and operated moving company will allow you to get an in-home estimate.

Estimates

Any legitimate and locally owned moving company will provide you with the opportunity to receive a FREE in-home estimate. There is no need to agree to an estimate until every square foot of your home has been viewed. Consider asking for a written, binding or a “not to exceed” estimate. Receiving a “not to exceed” estimate will guarantee that your moving budget won’t be surpassed. Make sure you ask questions! You don’t want to be surprised on moving day by information that was left out of the conversation. Once you’ve received several estimates when choosing a moving company, it’s time to compare. Note considerably high or low bids and question them as necessary. Most moving companies are happy to answer any questions you may have, so feel free to call should a bid bring up any confusion.

Scheduling

One of the most important factors when choosing a moving company is scheduling. We highly recommend that homeowners be present while movers are on the job in their homes. That means carefully considering your scheduling options. Being able to move on a weekday may mean time off work, but could also save on low availability rates on weekends. Consider moving earlier in the month if possible as well. End of the month means more demand!

Choosing a moving company may seem like a daunting task, but doing your research and paying for a quality moving company will save you stressful days, unexpected expense, and a sore back in the long run.
